Overview
Jerboas are adorable and energetic mammals that hop around like little kangaroos! They belong to the rodent family, but these charming critters have long legs and short bodies, making them quite unique.
Jerboas live in the sandy deserts of Africa, where their big feet help them bounce effortlessly across the dunes. They measure about 10 to 15 centimeters (4 to 6 inches) long, not counting their long, fluffy tails that can add extra length and balance.
These busy little creatures eat a variety of foods, including seeds, plants, and even insects! Jerboas have special adaptations that allow them to go a long time without water, getting all the moisture they need from their food.
Jerboas are mostly nocturnal, which means they come out to play when the sun sets. Their large ears help them hear sounds from far away, making them experts at avoiding predators in the dark!
With a lifespan of around six years, these little jumpers stay active and full of energy. Their swift movements make them quite the stars of the desert, entertaining anyone lucky enough to spot them!
